About Me

At the age of 5 Deyonta Flash Twilight came into contact with the equestrian world through the purchase of the four-year-old Arabian thoroughbred mare Sinai Al Ray. He became acquainted with the many prejudices of this breed and wanted to prove that this "dangerous breed that is good for nothing" actually does have many qualities. Deyonta's career began with a demo of the Arab breed in the Benelux Open in The Hague in 2001 and hasn’t left the scene since then. In 2002 Kelly Outhuijse started Sinai Al Ray in dressage, all-round class (type, dressage, jumping, cross, speed, western and trail) ridden classes and native costume classes. There followed many demos and competitions, Kelly with freestyle on music and Deyonta Flash Twilight showed Sinai Al Ray often in Arabic outfits. During the Arabian Youth Festival at Tilburg in 2003 he was judged by ECAHO jury Mr. Gamlin. He said that he could become a big trainer under good supervision. Jan Calis, one of the best trainers and handlers of Arabian horses, took on this task. In 2005 Sinai Al Ray and Kelly had reached Intermediate-I level. According to our trainer, whom nowadays coaches the Olympic dressage team of Turkey, she could, despite her smaller size, start Grand Prix. Since the Netherlands is the only country in the world that has the category E-ponies, they should have started for Belgium. After looking through the different options the choice was made, and Deyonta Flash Twilight would take over from Kelly.

In 2008 Deyonta Flash Twilight started dressage with Sinai Al Ray. Everybody taught that it would be a piece of cake for him because Sinai Al Ray was well trained. However, this wasn’t easy due to the lack of skills of a skilled rider. If he didn’t sit correctly, gave the aids at the right moment and place the horse would do something else. In 2011 he barely rode dressage competitions, because he focused on fine-tuning his riding and had a very busy schedule showing horses. But the competitions he rode did result in an AVS Dutch Championship and became champion.

Education

I have been coached by Jan Calis owner of Zenith Arabians and I had an intensive training from Mariusz Liskiewicz of Michałów State Stud of Poland. This resulted in my own style of training and it’s a mix of these two big icons. Furthermore, I had the privilege to work one-on-one with Robin Hopkinson. I mainly learned how to condition and train the Arabian show horse at The Hopkinson Equine Management at Aljassimya Farm in the USA. Robin also taught me the ins and out of the stand up. My visit to Miss Watts of Halsdon Arabians UK has also had some input with the start of my career.

-Jan Calis is crazy about movement: “no movement no horse!”. For a long time Jan showed many horses for national and international shows in Europe but also in Qatar, Jordan, Poland and Russia. He is known as “Flying Dutchman” because he flies through the ring with his horse, both forwards and backwards.
-Mariusz Liszkiewicz main handler of Michalow Stud Poland.
-Robin Hopkinson has over 25 years of experience working with some of the world's greatest Arabian horses. Robin: "This young man can Fly without wings!" Since 2013 learner of Aljassimya Farm, 100 Oaks Ranch Santa Ynez USA.
-In 2014 seven weeks with Greg Gallún, handler van Pianissima (Janów Podlaski State Stud), Gallún Farm, Scottsdale/Santa Ynez USA.
-2015 Midwest Training Center USA training from David Boggs, Alcides Rodrigues en Dagmar Gordiano

Both of these people have helped me enormously during my preparation of the famous international Arabian Thoroughbred Horse Shows: the Tulip Cup. In Deurne They were a great support and helpful in many areas, nothing was too much for them and they are very modest! Deyonta has taken this good example to heart, and is very aware of his role as personal trainer of the Arabian thoroughbred horse. He works with much love, time and attention. Which he has proven in the past at home and abroad! I can wholeheartedly recommend this sweet, modest, gentle boy, Mvr J. • Type, body, movement, refinement and elegance are all desired qualities that give the Arabian horse its unique expression. Quality isn’t enough to win competitions. It’s necessary to educate the foal and learn good behaviour, basic manners and discipline, this isn’t always easy. Just like human beings, every horse has its own character and qualities and should be taken in consideration while training. The secret of a successful trainer is to be able to understand every individual horse he works with.

  • I believe that the knowledge of the handler is as important as the education of the horse. The intricacies of coaching, but also the preparation for the physical condition of the horse are just as important as the training itself in handling. All horses offered for training, will be stabled full-board at the 4-star equestrian center Thielen at Tilburg, the Netherlands. This way I can fully concentrate and work with the horses that are in training.
